Week no. 7
Date: 5th May 2014
Aim of week: Music – motivation/endurance/intensity improvements
Aim of week: Music – motivation/endurance/intensity improvements
Hi Lee, for this last week I would like for you to try listening to music before training or a competitive situation to try and get you in the 'zone' throughout your training/competition, this can potentially help you relax more during the training/competition/fights and will help you concentrate more as you will be focused on the music you were just listening too; rather than thinking about worry or about making any mistakes in the fight.
Music may be used to build your energy; music can also
positively influence performance by improving endurance and/or exercise
intensity. When music is selected according to its motivational qualities, the
positive impact on performance (e.g., increased endurance)
Before
a fight listening to music can give you that drive to achieve, listening to
something that can get you pumped, ready for action, something fast with a good
beat that can get you riled up to win. A tune that can inspire them before a
game, or relax them after one.
Training session 1:
Fighting and martial
arts training is always fast, you always have to be on the ball and you are
producing fast paced kicks and strikes, you should prepare yourself before a training
session or competition by listening to some quick music, something with a quick
tempo. Lee for this training session I would like for you to try and listen to
these songs that I have selected for you, you can listen to them in any order,
either before a competition, before a practice fighting session or even before
a training session as this will be the best help for you to be able to
concentrate better, feel more adrenaline and be more pumped to win the upcoming
fight.

These
are some of the songs I have researched and found that people use before a
fighting situation, I actually listened to some of these myself before a
Ju-jitsu session to see if it affected me at all and found that it actually
make me feel more confident, more ready for practice and ready to train harder,
the songs are upbeat, fast, energetic and make you feel ready for action.
The
songs I have chosen for you should get you psyched up for the upcoming fights
or upcoming training session. Listen to a couple at least before each session
or training this week and let me know what you think, whether some of these
songs are a good choice for Ju-jitsu and whether you will use these songs again
or not. Thanks Lee.

Lee: Hi Joe, read the blog when I got your email,
good idea as well, I don’t usually listen to music before training or a fight, I
just usually sit in silence to stay calm and relaxed, but I can see that this
programme was definitely a good idea to help pump me up ready for a fight or
for some training, I listened to some of the songs earlier just before my gym
session, some weren’t really to my liking, they are songs more for your age
bracket I’d say, however listening to them did make me feel more motivated and
ready for a fight, I listened to the first 4 walking to the gym which ended up
turning the walk into a jog, I felt ready to exercise, and listened to some
more of the songs whilst at the gym, I’m not sure if it was the tempo or the
beat but I actually felt like I worked out for a lot longer, and I didn’t get
tired for quite some time. Usually I don’t listen to music before training but
this really seemed to help me, I’ll definitely be listening to more music
before and during training and before some fights, however maybe not some of
the songs that you have chosen, although I didn’t mind a few. Sad that this is
the last training session, I really enjoyed these Joe and will definitely be
using these techniques more in the future, I find that I definitely did benefit
from some of these activities and session and hopefully have generally overall
improved from these. See you at Ju-jitsu tomorrow. Thanks, Lee.
